Destiny

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (Peace Be Upon Him) as saying: "There was an argument between Adam and Moses. Moses said, ' Are you that Adam whose lapse caused you to get out of Paradise? Adam said to him: Are you that Moses whom Allah selected for his Messengership, for His conversation and you blame me for an affair which had been ordained for me before I was created? This is how Adam came the better of Moses.

(Sahih Muslim)

Divine Will (Al-Qadar)

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said, "Adam and Moses argued with each other. Moses said to Adam, 'O Adam! You are our father who disappointed us and turned us out of Paradise.' Then Adam said to him, 'O Moses! Allah favored you with His talk (talked to you directly) and He wrote (the Torah) for you with His Own Hand. Do you blame for action which Allah had written in my fate forty years before my creation?' So Adam confuted Moses, Adam confuted Moses," The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) added, repeating the statement three times.

THE OBLIGATION OF GRATITUDE

Allah, the Exalted, says: "And the close of their request will be: 'Al-hamdu Lillahi Rabb-il-'alamin (All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of 'Alamin {mankind, jinn and all that exists} ). Qur'an 10:10

Abu Huairah (May Allah be pleased with him)) reported: 'On the Night of Al-Isra (the Night of Ascension) the Prophet 'Peace Be Upon Him' was presented with two drinking vessels: one full of wine and the other one full of milk. He looked at them. Then he took the vessel which was full of milk. Thereupon Jibril [Gabriel] said: 'Al-hamdu Lilah ' praise be to Allah' Who has guided you to that, which is in accord with Fitrah (i.e. Islamic Monotheism; pure nature of Islam). Had you selected wine, your people would have gone astray.)" [ Muslim ]

Commentary:

This Hadith highlights the following points:

1. Islam is a religion which matches with the pure nature. Every sensible person accepts it instinctively.

2. One who is endowed with the capacity and aptitude to do good should praise Allah.

3. Wine is the root of all evils and for this reason has been regarded the 'Mother of Vices'.

4. To take good omen from agreeable signs is Mustahabb (desireable)

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said: "Allah created Adam in His picture, sixty cubits [ about 30 meters ] in height. When He created him, He said (to him), 'Go and greet that group of angels sitting there, and listen what they will say in reply to you, for that will be your greeting and greeting of your offspring.' Adam (went and) said, 'As-Salamu alaikum (Peace be upon you)! They replied, 'As Salamu - 'Alaika wa Rahmatullah (Peace and Allah's Mercy be on you). So they increased 'Wa Rahmatullah)'. The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) added 'So whoever will enter Paradise, will be of the shape and picture of Adam Since then the creation of Adam's (offspring) [i.e. stature of human beings is being diminished continuously] to the present time.

Ahnaf bin Qais reported: While I was in the company of the (elites) of Quraish, Abu Dharr came there and he was saying: Give glad tindings to the hoarders of riches that their backs would be branded (so deeply) that (hot Iron) would come out of their sides, and when the backs of their necks would be branded, it would come out of their foreheads. He (Abu Dharr) then went away and sat down. I asked who he was. They said: He is Abu Dharr. I went to him and said to him: What is this that I heard from you which you were saying before? He said: I said nothing but only that which I heard from their Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). I again said: What do you say about his gift? He said:Take it, for today it is a help. But when it becomes a price for your religion, then abandon it.

(Sahih Muslim)

Allah, the Exalted, says: "Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): 'Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to you! (Exalted are You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.' " Qur'an 3:191
